ESPN Anchor Mark Madden Fired for Sen. Kennedy ‘Assassination’ Comment

A Pittsburgh-area sports talk show host has been fired for controversial remarks he made earlier this month regarding Sen. Edward Kennedy. Mark Madden said on air he hoped Kennedy 'would live long enough to be assassinated.' Kennedy was diagnosed last week with malignant glioma, which is a severe brain tumor.

Hillary Clinton Wins in Pennsylvania Primary Results

New York Senator Hillary Clinton has taken victory in the Pennsylvania primary results over rival Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Based on exit polls and early voting tallies, CNN has declared the state a win for Clinton, but the all-important margin of votes between the former First Lady and the Illinois Senator remains to be determined.

Pennsylvania primary exit polls indicate the state of the nation's economy is the foremost concern among Democratic voters in the state. Exit polls also indicated voters in the PA primary felt Hillary Clinton was more likely than Barack Obama to defeat Republican presidential nominee John McCain in the November election results.

Barack Obama Down by 20 Percent in Pennsylvania Poll

Following controversial remarks saying some working-class Americans are 'bitter' and 'cling to guns or religion', Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama is facing a 20 percent drop against rival Hillary Clinton in a new Pennsylvania poll. In the new American Research Group poll, Clinton now leads Obama 57 percent to 37 percent. Previously, the two Democratic candidates were tied at 45 percent each in the statewide poll.

Pittsburgh Steelers' Porter Fined $10K for Anti-Gay Slur

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Joey Porter was fined by the NFL $10,000 for calling Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow a derogatory term normally used for gay men. Porter's comments came last Thursday after the Steelers trounced the Browns 27-7.

Presbyterian Minister Could Face Penalties for Marrying Lesbian Couple

A Presbyterian minister in Pittsburgh, PA was charged by church authorities this week with violating the Presbyterian Church constitution for officiating at a same-sex marriage last year. The Rev. Janet Edwards, 56, came under scrutiny from Pittsburgh Presbytery in Aug. 2005 after she married Brenda Cole, 52, and Nancy McConn, 65.

School Paper Held and Distributed Minus Gay Ad

School officials at Lampeter-Strasburg High School in Pennsylvania have stopped the distribution of a school newspaper with an advertisement by a gay and lesbian support group, and distributed it two weeks later without the ad. A teacher at the school said in an e-mail to a parent that 1,200 copies of the Nov. 18 edition of The Limelight newspaper were recalled because of the advertisement by the group Common Roads.
